The Roof of Africa
Stand on the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. The world's tallest freestanding mountain awaits your ultimate test of endurance.
Choose Your RouteThe Mountain
Climbing Kilimanjaro is like walking from the equator to the North Pole in just a few days. You will traverse five distinct ecological zones, each offering breathtaking and completely different landscapes.
800m-1,800m. Lush farmlands and local Chagga villages.
1,800m-2,800m. Dense canopy, colobus monkeys, exotic birds.
2,800m-4,000m. Giant groundsels, lunar-like landscapes.
4,000m-5,000m. Extreme sun, freezing nights, volcanic rock.
5,000m+. Glaciers, snow, ice, and the roof of Africa.
Weather on the mountain is highly seasonal. We recommend climbing during the dry seasons for the safest and most enjoyable experience.
The peak dry season. Warm days, clear skies, and the most popular time to climb. Book well in advance.
Colder temperatures with a higher chance of snow on the summit. Peaceful, uncrowded trails, and clear morning views.
The heavy "long rains" season. Trails become muddy and slippery, and clouds obscure the views. Most camps close.
